Heavy punching bags are one of the best pieces of training equipment you can get. Many commercial gyms and home gyms have a punching bag since it can serve as a useful tool for attaining various physical results: improved strength, explosiveness, endurance, mobility, fat loss, and of course, practicing various punching and kicking moves.
With that being said, if you purchased a punching bag, you’re probably wondering how to assemble it properly. That is what you’ll learn in this article.
Before we begin explaining the process of hanging a heavy bag, here are the tools you need to do it correctly:
- Drill bits
- Eyebolt screw
- Duct tape
- Swivel link
Step By Step Guide
Now that you have all the tools required at your disposal, here is a step-to-step guide to hanging the bag.
First of all, you need to find a proper location where you will have the bag hanging, and also rough enough to maneuver around it while training. You should also take the swinging of the bag into account. Locate a stud beam on the ceiling on which you will attach the bag, and make sure it is roughly 24 inches away from a side wall.
Then you should drill a starter hole into the ceiling stud, by using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the eyebolt screw you’re about to use.
Before Hanging The Bag
Before you hang the bag, you’ll have to insert the eyebolt screw in the hole that you’ve just drilled. You can tighten it by hand, but if you require extra assistance, you can use pliers or a screwdriver to tighten it more efficiently.
Hanging The Bag
Now all you need to do is attach the chains located on the top of the punching bag into a swivel hook, and then to the S-hook. After you’ve done that you can attach it to the eyebolt hook. This will enable the bag to spin.
That’s all there is to it. Hanging a heavy bag in your room, garage or basement requires very little work, and you can learn it by yourself. Just make sure you pick the right location that you actually can and are willing to train in. Best of luck and let us know how it went!
How to hang a punching bag without drilling?
If the ceiling is not suitable for drilling, or you are a lack of space, you can use a standing or a well-mounted heavy bag stand. Also, it does not need any technical skills. You will just have to hang the bag. That is all. Although, you cannot walk the bag around like a hung one.
How to hang a punching bag outside?
Well, if you prefer working out outdoor, you can make a stand like the one you can learn from the following video. Just, keep in mind that most of the punching bags are not water resistant. So, buy one that is suitable for outdoor training or take your bag indoor when you do not use it.
How high to hang a heavy bag?
From my experience, the best is if we put the bag 6-10 inches higher than your eye line. But, it depends many factors, for example, if you will kick it or not. So, test what is the most suitable for you.
